Don't Panic!

It's all OK.

H2G2 The Movie is good. I would have enjoyed it more if I didn't know the radio series off by heart. For those who've just read the book, I'm sure that it would be more enjoyable.

The storyline makes a lot more sense than the originals; but, then, that was part of their charm.

There are some very nice touches, and the Knitting Director should be very proud. There are a couple of references to the TV show, and Simon Jones - the original Arthur Dent in the Radio & TV series' - here playing a ... well, I won't spoil it - steals the show with what was for me and my compatriots the best joke of the movie.

So, yes. Absolutely. Go see now. That's an order.

I totally want to see this film! Looking forward to it, but I think that Marvin seems a little too.... cute??

I want my very own Marvin now - a little Marvin action figure, perhaps, with moveable head and limbs and when you press his tummy he says things. It would be lovely! You'll get me one, won't you, you darling darling man? x

Want Want Want

I want one of Elwood "Woody" Norris' Silent Sound Systems.

I'm not so keen on his other recent invention, though.

Mmm-hmmm. First you need to get a washer/dryer, microwave, fridge/freezer, bed, sofas, etc - then we'll talk about the Silent Sound System... (Luv you!) x

You wait ages ...

... and then three come along at once.

Having bitched about the US-centric attitude of Google Local, Google Maps and Google Mobile, along come Google Local UK (in Cahoots with Yell), Google Maps UK and Google SMS, which all do what they say on the tin.

Now, if only they could put those pesky tube stations in the right places...! Have you tried printing out one of the maps yet, then? ;) x

Home Again

But only temporarily - I'll be homeless from Thursday! Yikes!

I'm very much enjoying the Flikr General Election Pool, as discovered by the no longer blogging Vic.

This one in particular sums it all up for me.

If you used that URL, then it's no wonder you thought I wasn't blogging... :)

Anyway I'm back now, a bit embarrassed like - but back.

About Dustbinman

Dustbinman is a 34 year-old English idiot who's in the fortunate position to be getting married (twice) this year to a wonderful girl from Calcutta. 'A wonderful girl from Calcutta' sounds like the first line of a limerick, and trust me, many have been written, but I won't repeat them here.

Professionally I'm a consultant at the interface between IT and Transport, and if that sounds like a pretentious description, then you're not far off. Unfortunately, however, that's what I do. I'm also involved in a music publishing collective that will soon dominate the world in the way that Sony-BMG does at the moment. But more of that as it progresses.

I live in London, just off Essex Road in Islington's lovely northern reaches. It's also close to the hilariously named Balls Pond Road, which I only recently discovered is named after a pub run by Mr Balls, who had a pond out the back where people could go and have a pot-shot at the various ducks and geese that frequented it. Honest!

I have a sister, some nieces and a brother who is going to be very famous soon. Stay tuned for progress updates.

Feeds of this website available for your Cockney:

(Cockney Bleeder = Newsreader.)

Main Site:

Which is best? I prefer Atom feeds as they are more comprehensive, give a preview and images, and can be used for the entire entry. This means if you don't like my purple, you don't have to suffer it. As always, Wikipedia has a good explanation of the different types.

Line up for the lineup

The Glasto lineup is out, and once again I will be making complex mathematical calculations over whether it's possible to see The Bravery and Athlete at the same time, or who's set I would prefer to see the first part of, and who would be better to see the end of.

Of course, in the final reckoning I shall probably be so out of it that I'll miss the majority of it.

Lucky for you that I'll be there with you...I can tell you about all the things you missed. :) (Whaddya mean you thought I'd be getting stoned in the tent with you?...Well, okay, but not for three straight days is all I'm sayin'.)

Now, when are U2 going to finally admit that they're playing? x

Quiet Storm

Oh, whoopee.

(I'm being sarcastic.)

Head of the Axis of Evil and all-round American media leeches Clear Channel have bought all round Musical good-guys Mean Fiddler.

Not a good day for Britain.

Boo. Booooooooo.

On a brighter note, I've just seen the latest confirmed line up for Glasto - wheeeeeeeee! x

It's also all in the Stars

Nice article in the Guardian today about the 20 years of obfuscation that led to the making of the Hitchikers Movie - one of the directors, Simon Jennings seems to have nicely tapped into Douglas Adams' methodolgy in creating the original radio series, before it was polished, analysed and re-written to make sense for the novels.

So it was like when you're a kid telling stories and you go, 'OK, and then a spaceship comes down and then ... Oh shit, how do I get out of this? OK, well then there's a button that you press and it's an improbability button and that means that you can get out of any problem.' And we've tried to keep all of that in the film.

Which is not to denegrate the master, of course.

Sounds like a perfectly sensible method to me; you have no idea how many trials I've won thanks to it!

PS: I love you. xx

It's all in the Stars

What with all the hoopla going on with Elections, Dead Popes and Munters Reunited, the world has all but forgotten the passing of another great leader. Therefore, it's nice to see a note in MediaMonkey today (again - no permalinks - what's going on, guys?) about a story that I can only corroborate on a dicky astrology site.

Hollywood arch-roué David Niven says he was once asked by the Prince who of all the female stars was the best in bed. "Grace, of course," replied Niven gallantly - only to see Rainier's suddenly stricken expression. "Grace?" gasped Rainier. "Er... Gracie Fields," corrected Niven smartly.

Agenda Bender

It happens quite regularly that I'll stumble across a website and get agitated for a few minutes before remembering that this is the Internet. Home of nutjobs, amongst which I count myself.

So, just for reference, if the next Pope is Indian then this guy will be pleased and scared all at the same time, and I for one will probably steer clear of him, even if I do have a nasty feeling he might be right.

...I am currently just speechless on the topic of aggressive christianity right now.

...mostly because I'm tired of this phrase--which has been finding its way to my ears a lot lately in reference to numerous different "circumstances" or whatnot...

"...I'm a good christian." or "...I come from a good christian home."

...usually meaning they wouldn't "do" or "say" this or that.

...but then that same person does or says something... that a...
well nevermind.
I said I was speechless. Now I'm getting all worked up. :) I'll rant about it elsewhere.

Gulp!

Whilst everyone thought that the extra gigabyte for GMail users was an April Fools Gag, there was a less subtle yet funnier one lurking on Google. Either that, or someone hasn't been using their 20% time for core activities.

D-Day Approach

Nice press release from the Freight Transport Association describing how they're going to resurrect a pontoon used in the D-Day landings in WWII to use for lorry parking in Calais.

One of the more creative stories of today, along with the one about Bushra getting married. (Except the second one is true.)

Conservative estimates

It's not often I agree with a religious leader, but here's the Archbishop of Canterbury warning the campaign managers:

"If you think about what actually threatens us, not only as a country but as a planet, that's the level I think we ought to be going to."

This was in response to Howard's attempt to generate fear in a press briefing, and complaints from the Association of Chief Police Officers about targetted ads in marginal constituencies that apparently gave misleading crime figures. Misleading figures in political adverts? Surely not!
